“The Past is in the Past”

Scripture: Isaiah 43:18-19
18 “But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.19 For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. (NLT)
18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. (KJV)
Don’t remember the former things:
If you remain caught up in your sin and discouragement you will miss how God is trying to currently move in your life, and will never be able to see the future He has for you.
16 I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea.
17 I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. I drew them beneath the waves , and they drowned, their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick. (NLT)
These couple of verses set the framework for how we should look at our past.
We must remember the great work God has done, but we must forget the defeat we suffered in the past.
If your past matters so much to you, so should your future!
It’s not until you let your past go, that you will be able to focus on you NOW.
Now, is when your head is down, and you are trying to discern what it is that the Lord is trying to do in your life in the present.
This can be a very tough place in life. Because you are stuck in a place focusing on your circumstances rather than what God wants.
You will be unable to seek your future until you shake your circumstances and look up.
Once you have let go of your circumstances and let God move in your now, it is then that you will be able to look out at your THEN.
Proverbs 29:18
18 When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful. (NLT)
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.”
It is important to have vision. However that vision needs to be God inspired, and operating within His will.
We don’t get to fly by the seat of our pants, living on the edge and call that faith. That’s not called faith, that s called irresponsibility.
Once you look out to your then, and begin to walk hand in hand with God we can turn our attention to two other very important things…

Now the question is how can we change our family tree.
Our children don’t do what we say, they do what we do. And before you can change the life of another you have to first change your life.
Proverbs 22:6
6 Direct your children onto the right path , and when they are older, they will not leave it.
You have to prepare them to pass their own legacy on to future generations.
Now when the family is taken care of, it is time to focus on THEM.
2 Corinthians 9:7
7 You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.
It is important to remember that family comes first, but we must plan and allow for overflow.
